The History of Our Future

A Personal Offering To The Nation

In 2015, Eng. Azza Al Ismaili presented a deeply personal and visionary document to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said: a book titled The History of Our Future. This work was the result of over two years of dedicated reflection, writing, and strategic insight.

The book was not written for publication or recognition. It was a gift to the country —a reflection on how Oman could grow, evolve, and lead by remaining rooted in identity whilst embracing innovation.

A Blueprint of Ideas → The Five Pillars Of Vision 2040

The The History of Our Future addressed five core areas that later became foundational pillars of Oman Vision 2040.

Education Reform

A call for more purposeful, value-rooted, and innovative education that prepares Omanis to think, create, and lead.

Environmental Stewardship

Recommendations on sustainability and the importance of conservation as a national ethic, not just a policy.

Economic Diversification

Strategic frameworks to reduce reliance on oil, focusing on entrepreneurship, SMEs and manufacturing

Innovation and Technology

Early proposals for national innovation infrastructure, AI readiness, and tech-driven public services.

Acknowledged by His Majesty

His Majesty the late Sultan Qaboos not only received the book, but deeply appreciated its ideas. While never made public, many of the proposals outlined in this document were echoed in later policy frameworks, proving its quiet yet profound influence.

A Living Legacy

Today, the ideas in The History of Our Future live on through the work of AIG and the public service of its founder. From education to sustainability to policy, the book remains a symbol of how personal conviction can evolve into national contribution.

This was never about a title or role. It was about sharing what I believed Oman could become — and offering those thoughts with sincerity, vision, and respect.”
